Sidoarjo mud volcano retaining wall section sinks
A 50-meter section of a retaining wall built to stem the flow of mud from the ongoing mud volcano disaster in Siring village, Porong district in Sidoarjo, East Java, started to sink on Thursday.
The wall, located behind the nearby mud flow monitoring post, is situated in an area listed as unsuitable for building, said a spokesman of the Sidoarjo Mudflow Management Agency, Akhmad Kusairi, as quoted by Kompas.com. He said the agency was taking action to prevent further damage to the wall. He said his agency would also work with state railway company PT KAI to ensure the nearby railway would not be affected by the situation. The damaged wall caused traffic jams on nearby roads.
